Alan Newsome Prize Winner

Each year Newsome Vaughan sponsors the Alan Newsome Prize, awarded to law students from Coventry University.   The prize is an award of £500 and the offer of two weeks work experience within the firm. It is the Programme Assessment Board at Coventry University, made up of Law staff and external examiners for undergraduate law, which makes the decision as to who should win. The Board considers the results of all the undergraduate law students and will award the prize to the ‘Most Promising Final Year Student.'

In 2006-2007 the prize was awarded to a final year student, Kelly Hopper, who gained a 2.1 degree. A second year student, Rebecca Heywood, was awarded the work experience prize. Both Kelly and Rebecca together with Beverley Stephenson (Head of Law at Coventry University) were invited to a presentation at Newsome Vaughan’s offices followed by lunch with three of the Firm’s Members.

During the Autumn, Rebecca completed a week’s work experience with the Firm, spending time in several departments.

The good news from the previous year is that Helen Ripley, who spent a year with the Firm, has gained a place to complete her Legal Practice Course and, hopefully, qualify as a Solicitor.  Our best wishes go to her and all of the successful prize winners.
